Na \u00faltima ter\u00e7a-feira (1\u00ba), os chilenos se assustaram ao olhar o term\u00f4metro: as temperaturas na Cordilheira dos Andes alcan\u00e7aram incr\u00edveis 38,9\u00ba C (em pleno inverno). Esta \u00e9 a maior temperatura registrada no Chile desde 1951. O centro de meteorologia chileno emitiu um alerta para \u201caltas temperaturas\u201d no pa\u00eds. Este alerta segue em vigor at\u00e9 esta sexta-feira (4).
De acordo com o Metsul, uma massa de ar quente cobre o interior da Am\u00e9rica do Sul, o que tem elevado as temperaturas na regi\u00e3o. O fen\u00f4meno come\u00e7ou no in\u00edcio de agosto, no norte do Chile, al\u00e9m de partes da Argentina, Uruguai e Paraguai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Os ventos que descem das montanhas provocam altas temperaturas porque se comprimem e esquentam \u00e0 medida que descem a encosta da cordilheira. Na meteorologia, o fen\u00f4meno \u00e9 conhecido como aquecimento adiab\u00e1tico.
O meteorologista Tom\u00e1s Caballero, do Caeza (Centro de Estudos Avan\u00e7ados em Zonas \u00c1ridas), disse ao Metsul que a temperatura m\u00e1xima hist\u00f3rica para agosto na cidade chilena de Vicu\u00f1a ocorreu em 2014, quando os term\u00f4metros atingiram 38,5\u00baC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por conta das altas temperaturas, a cobertura de neve rapidamente derreteu em parte dos Andes. Uma c\u00e2mera instalada a 2.600 metros de altitude em Santiago, por exemplo, mostra como a cobertura de neve derreteu em poucos dias com o tempo quente. Isso traz preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o com o abastecimento de \u00e1gua, pois ele \u00e9 dependente de uma maior cobertura de neve nos Andes. A expectativa \u00e9 que a massa de ar quente deve afetar, inclusive, o tempo no Rio Grande do Sul. O estado brasileiro tamb\u00e9m deve registrar temperaturas elevadas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enquanto a regi\u00e3o Norte do Chile registra recordes de altas temperaturas, o Sul, na regi\u00e3o de Magalh\u00e3es, foi assolado por uma tempestade de neve e gelo que for\u00e7ou, at\u00e9 mesmo, a suspens\u00e3o de aulas.
Todos os voos no aeroporto da regi\u00e3o est\u00e3o suspensos devido \u00e0s condi\u00e7\u00f5es meteorol\u00f3gicas.
