Depois de mais de quatro d\u00e9cadas sem registros confi\u00e1veis no pa\u00eds, a ariranha gigante foi oficialmente reintroduzida<\/mark>\u00a0nos ecossistemas aqu\u00e1ticos da\u00a0Argentina<\/a>. A soltura aconteceu no Parque Nacional Iber\u00e1, na prov\u00edncia de Corrientes \u2014 um dos maiores e mais preservados remanescentes de alagados na Am\u00e9rica do Sul \u2014 gra\u00e7as a um esfor\u00e7o coordenado por organiza\u00e7\u00f5es de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o, com apoio internacional e uma log\u00edstica cuidadosa.
A esp\u00e9cie, identificada cientificamente como Pteronura brasiliensis<\/em>, \u00e9 considerada a maior\u00a0lontra<\/a>\u00a0do mundo, podendo atingir at\u00e9 cerca de\u00a01,8 metro de comprimento<\/mark>. Trata\u2011se de um predador de topo nos ambientes \u00famidos e aqu\u00e1ticos da\u00a0Am\u00e9rica do Sul<\/a>, com dieta predominantemente composta por peixes, mas que tamb\u00e9m pode incluir crust\u00e1ceos, moluscos, r\u00e9pteis aqu\u00e1ticos, pequenos mam\u00edferos e aves aqu\u00e1ticas. Por essa condi\u00e7\u00e3o de predador de topo, a ariranha desempenha papel essencial na regula\u00e7\u00e3o da fauna local e na manuten\u00e7\u00e3o do equil\u00edbrio ecol\u00f3gico dos p\u00e2ntanos e rios.<\/p>\n\n\n

O retorno da esp\u00e9cie ao territ\u00f3rio argentino era esperado h\u00e1 d\u00e9cadas<\/mark>. As \u00faltimas observa\u00e7\u00f5es confi\u00e1veis de grupos de ariranhas no pa\u00eds datavam da d\u00e9cada de 1980, ap\u00f3s as quais a esp\u00e9cie passou a ser considerada extinta no pa\u00eds, devido \u00e0 ca\u00e7a, destrui\u00e7\u00e3o de habitats e polui\u00e7\u00e3o das \u00e1guas. O projeto de reintrodu\u00e7\u00e3o \u2014 iniciado em 2017 pela organiza\u00e7\u00e3o Rewilding Argentina \u2014 envolveu a sele\u00e7\u00e3o de casais reprodutores provenientes de zool\u00f3gicos da Europa, adapta\u00e7\u00e3o dos animais em \u00e1reas de quarentena, prepara\u00e7\u00e3o para a soltura, e treinamento para alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o com presas naturais do ambiente.<\/p>\n\n\n

Em 2025, uma fam\u00edlia composta por dois adultos e filhotes nascidos em cativeiro foi liberada em lagos e canais do Parque Nacional Iber\u00e1. Desde ent\u00e3o, bi\u00f3logos e guardas ambientais monitoram a sobreviv\u00eancia<\/mark>, os movimentos e a adapta\u00e7\u00e3o dos animais \u2014 com a expectativa de que eles se reproduzam e formem novas popula\u00e7\u00f5es selvagens. A reintrodu\u00e7\u00e3o da ariranha marca o retorno do \u201cmaior predador aqu\u00e1tico da Am\u00e9rica do Sul\u201d \u00e0 Argentina, e representa um s\u00edmbolo importante de restaura\u00e7\u00e3o ambiental e de recupera\u00e7\u00e3o da\u00a0biodiversidade<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n
