Uma nova investiga\u00e7\u00e3o hist\u00f3rica revelou um aspecto in\u00e9dito e perturbador da colabora\u00e7\u00e3o de civis com o regime nazista durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial<\/a>\u00a0e o Holocausto:\u00a0restauradores de papel e encadernadores foram recrutados<\/mark>\u00a0em toda a Europa pelas autoridades de\u00a0Hitler<\/a>\u00a0para restaurar e limpar documentos antigos \u2014 como registros de batismo, casamento e nascimento \u2014 com o objetivo de torn\u00e1-los leg\u00edveis para a m\u00e1quina de\u00a0persegui\u00e7\u00e3o racial nazista<\/mark>. O trabalho desses artes\u00e3os t\u00e9cnicos ajudou o regime a identificar pessoas com ascend\u00eancia judaica e compilar o que pesquisadores agora descrevem como uma \u201clista de exterm\u00ednio\u201d encoberta pelos termos burocr\u00e1ticos de genealogia e arquivo.
A descoberta pertence \u00e0 historiadora brit\u00e2nica Dr. Morwenna Blewett, pesquisadora de hist\u00f3ria da conserva\u00e7\u00e3o documental e membro do Worcester College da Universidade de Oxford. Blewett encontrou cartas<\/a>, ordens oficiais e correspond\u00eancias de \u00e9poca que mostram que o\u00a0regime nazista<\/a>\u00a0intencionalmente contratou restauradores de papel e especialistas em conserva\u00e7\u00e3o<\/mark> para trabalhar em arquivos religiosos e civis \u2014 muitos dos quais haviam se tornado ileg\u00edveis com o tempo \u2014 para garantir que registros hist\u00f3ricos pudessem ser usados para rastrear ascend\u00eancias e assim conformar \u00e0s pol\u00edticas raciais racistas do Terceiro Reich.<\/p>\n\n\n

Esses artes\u00e3os foram instru\u00eddos a usar m\u00e9todos que hoje seriam considerados danosos e n\u00e3o conservacionistas<\/mark>, com foco em tornar o texto vis\u00edvel \u201ca qualquer custo\u201d. Por exemplo, manuscritos antigos foram saturados com glicerina e materiais muitas vezes agressivos, e p\u00e1ginas fr\u00e1geis foram tratadas de forma que priorizava a legibilidade imediata em detrimento da preserva\u00e7\u00e3o a longo prazo. Tais t\u00e9cnicas, normalmente desencorajadas nas pr\u00e1ticas de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o modernas, aumentaram o risco de danos permanentes aos documentos.
O principal objetivo por tr\u00e1s desse programa, de acordo com a pesquisa de Blewett, era claro: aqueles registros de batismos, convers\u00f5es e casamentos eram uma fonte principal para determinar a ascend\u00eancia \u201cracial\u201d<\/mark>, especialmente quando combinados com as diretrizes legais do regime de identifica\u00e7\u00e3o de judeus e outros grupos perseguidos. Essa pr\u00e1tica facilitou a administra\u00e7\u00e3o nazista no cumprimento de suas pol\u00edticas de genoc\u00eddio e deporta\u00e7\u00e3o de milh\u00f5es de pessoas durante o per\u00edodo do Holocausto. O material est\u00e1 reunido no livro da historiadora Art Restoration Under the Nazi Regime<\/em>, a ser lan\u00e7ado em 2026, no qual Blewett argumenta que os restauradores contribu\u00edram diretamente para crimes contra a humanidade ao tornar registros estrat\u00e9gicos acess\u00edveis \u00e0s autoridades nazistas \u2014 e que muitos desses profissionais escaparam de qualquer escrut\u00ednio hist\u00f3rico ou \u00e9tico ap\u00f3s a guerra<\/mark>.<\/p>\n\n\n
