Em 2017, a doen\u00e7a morbilivirose provocada pelo morbiliv\u00edrus dos cet\u00e1ceos (CeMV) causou a morte de mais de 200 botos-cinza (Sotalia guianensis) das ba\u00edas de Ilha Grande e Sepetiba, no Rio de Janeiro. A mortandade desses animais foi o primeiro registro na Am\u00e9rica do Sul.<br>O estudo ser\u00e1 realizado pelo Laborat\u00f3rio de Mam\u00edferos Aqu\u00e1ticos do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amaz\u00f4nia (Inpa\/MCTI), em parceria com a Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), e liderado pela bolsista do Programa de Capacita\u00e7\u00e3o Institucional do Inpa\/CNPq, Daniela Mello, m\u00e9dica veterin\u00e1ria com doutorado em ci\u00eancia animal (USP). O trabalho foi um dos 17 selecionados de 56 propostas enviadas para receber o financiamento do Small Grants in Aid of Research da Sociedade de Mastozoologia Marinha (EUA). A pesquisa tem o prazo de execu\u00e7\u00e3o de um ano.<br>O objetivo do estudo \u00e9 investigar a exposi\u00e7\u00e3o dos botos ao v\u00edrus, por meio da pesquisa de anticorpos neutralizantes contra o CeMV. Segundo Mello, ser\u00e3o investigadas mais de 700 amostras de botos coletadas ao longo de 21 anos do Projeto Boto do Inpa, que \u00e9 coordenado pela pesquisadora Vera da Silva. Os animais que estiveram expostos ao v\u00edrus devem conter anticorpos contra a doen\u00e7a na corrente sangu\u00ednea. Mas a degrada\u00e7\u00e3o ambiental tem um efeito delet\u00e9rio n\u00e3o apenas para a biodiversidade, podendo tamb\u00e9m promover a emerg\u00eancia de doen\u00e7as com caracter\u00edsticas epizo\u00f3ticas, \u00e0quelas que ocorrem ao mesmo tempo em v\u00e1rios animais de uma regi\u00e3o.<br>&#8220;A possibilidade de monitoramento, investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e de proje\u00e7\u00e3o da ocorr\u00eancia de doen\u00e7as \u00e9 um dos pontos-chave para a conserva\u00e7\u00e3o e manejo de popula\u00e7\u00f5es de cet\u00e1ceos, especialmente em se tratando de esp\u00e9cies amea\u00e7adas como o boto-vermelho&#8221;, destacou Mello, lembrando que n\u00e3o h\u00e1 tratamento para a morbilivirose, principalmente para animais de vida livre.<br>O boto-vermelho \u00e9 uma esp\u00e9cie classificada como em perigo de extin\u00e7\u00e3o e est\u00e1 na lista vermelha de Esp\u00e9cies Amea\u00e7adas da Uni\u00e3o Internacional para Conserva\u00e7\u00e3o da Natureza e dos Recursos Naturais (IUCN). Pesquisas realizadas pelo Inpa mostram que desde 2000 a popula\u00e7\u00e3o de botos na RDS Mamirau\u00e1, uma \u00e1rea protegida, reduz drasticamente a cada d\u00e9cada. Os botos-vermelhos e tucuxis sofrem amea\u00e7as principalmente pela captura direta, captura acidental em redes de pesca e a fragmenta\u00e7\u00e3o de popula\u00e7\u00f5es pela constru\u00e7\u00e3o de barragens hidrel\u00e9tricas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Projeto Boto<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>O Projeto Boto do Inpa atua na RDSM desde 1994, monitorando uma popula\u00e7\u00e3o de boto-vermelho e de tucuxi, visando aumentar o conhecimento sobre essas esp\u00e9cies de golfinhos fluviais. Segundo a coordenadora do Projeto, a pesquisadora Vera da Silva, o conhecimento da biologia e dos aspectos sanit\u00e1rios das esp\u00e9cies \u00e9 vital para a sua conserva\u00e7\u00e3o.<br>&#8220;A press\u00e3o antr\u00f3pica na regi\u00e3o Amaz\u00f4nica vem aumentando exponencialmente e, associada a diversos poluentes, altera\u00e7\u00e3o ambiental e in\u00fameras amea\u00e7as, afetam n\u00e3o s\u00f3 na deteriora\u00e7\u00e3o da qualidade do ambiente aqu\u00e1tico como tamb\u00e9m na sa\u00fade desses golfinhos. Assim, com esses estudos teremos uma ideia das doen\u00e7as que podem acometer esses animais&#8221;, destacou Silva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Fonte: <a
